Why children's books?

Since I was old enough to appreciate that it wasn't possible for me to grow up to be the queen (which was older than I care to say), I had a dream of becoming a book illustrator. I was drawing since I could hold a pencil, starting with Disney characters to my own characters and then to a phase of the Simpsons characters. The reason why I chose book illustration back then was because I simply loved drawing and being an illustrator seemed to be the only way to guarantee that I'd be able to keep drawing in adulthood. For many years from my teens, I enjoyed painting canvas commissions and pencil sketches from photographs and would like to continue this service now. However, I have also fallen back in love with the idea of illustration after being asked to illustrate a children's book teaching wildlife conservation. Now, it's not just about the fact I want to draw all the time, it's the thought of my illustrations making a positive difference, however small, in a child's life.
